I made it just about a month (a little more) in my quest to "blog more" this year, before falling off the wagon.
I suppose it's a month more than last year, but still; not very promising. And, while this post counts as a post, it's only real purpose is to "scold" myself for not posting more...
And to put it out there to the world (again) that I've successfully paid off one of my school loans. As the saying goes, "you win some, you lose some"...

Snow Days
I set myself up with five goals for 2014, as of now, I can happily say I've managed to do two of them all month. I'm pretty sure most people set lofty goals around the New Year, and many (like me) manage to keep one or two in the air for a bit, before letting them all crash down. At least, that's how my New Year resolutions tend to work...
As I look back on the list, it's easy to make excuses as to why I wasn't able to work on some of my goals (it's too cold outside to be active, it's too snowy outside to go exploring and live life in Indy, it's too dark at night to sew...), but there's also plenty of reasons why those are just lies and excuses (I have a gym membership, snow exploring is still exploring, and snow days means I have all day in light to sew...).
And so I was thinking the other day, I wonder if I tend to fail at my resolutions because I pick too many (that are too lofty) to do all at once. Change isn't always a sudden thing; lasting change takes time to implement and become habit. Maybe I'd do better if I didn't try to juggle everything, but instead added items one at a time, a month at a time.
As such, I've decided that accomplishing two goals is something to think about and be proud of, instead of feeling defeated for not getting all five. And this month, I'll add one more to the list and break out that sewing machine...

Hoosier Love
When I moved here, I could count the people I knew in this state on two hands; those I knew well I only needed one. I had spent my whole life making friends with those I was in school with, worked with, or were in some sort of organization with. I had never had to "venture out" to make new friends outside of these social situations, and I was a little nervous.
Six months later, I feel the Hoosier love. We spent three of the last four nights out with coworkers, old friends, and a somewhat new set of friends, which might be more nights out than we spent in all of October. It's been wonderful to get out of the house and laugh with A's coworkers, catch up with an old friend of mine (after 3+ years), and get to know a sister better, all in our new town.
While none of these people would consider themselves "Hoosiers" (we're probably the closest), it's been great to feel as if we belong here and this is our new home. There's no better way to see a city, than through new eyes, and to fall in love with it more and more through those eyes...

2014 Goals
I had a Facebook friend make a comment around New Years that I completely agree with, and yet, tend to not do as much as I should:
"Yes, today is the last day of 2013... But it should not be the one day of the year you look back and reflect on your life. Today is just a day. Live it, and every other day, to the fullest."
So, I still (briefly) looked back at 2013, forward to 2014, and created some goals for the next year:
*Keep up with the fitness/exercise routine (and improve on it). Maybe one day, I'll add some better eating components, but for now, I'm just trying to stay away from the horrible foods and continue to aim for getting a cardio exercise in more days than not.
*Live more. See my friends comment above. Life is short, it's too silly not to live it.
*Blog more. Which means setting aside time to reflect, write, and post. I've got another blog where I tried to create a mini-bucket list, and then write about accomplishing them (here). My goal is to post to it every month, and to post to this one at least once a week. I tend to forget about both of them after I created them (and as I get busy), so between the two of them, hopefully I can accomplish this goal.
*Capture a moment everyday. I've started this one already, and am still going strong! I'm posting the pictures to Instagram (anderson343; ask to follow me, I'll agree!) with the tag #365photos. And while the photos don't always get posted on the day they're taken, I'm still getting one a day and posting them! I'm debating on creating a Flickr account as well, but we shall see...
*Sew more. Or craft more. Or just be creative more. I work at a desk, will be attempting to write and exercise more, but I want to use my hands and mind in creating things. So I shall. Very likely once it's lighter longer, as my sewing machine room doesn't have a lot of lighting...
Five goals isn't many goals, but hopefully they're all goals that can be achieved with effort and persistence.
What are your goals, friends?

Starting 2014 Right...
Sometimes, I set (too) lofty of goals to start with, and end up
faltering before I get off the ground. Case in point, blogging. Ugh.
It's something I really love, but something that requires more time than I ever think about or acknowledge, causing me to keep starting and stopping. I'm really good at starting when I don't have anything to occupy my time, and stopping once I've found something to occupy my time! My goal for 2014 is to be much better about blogging regularly, but to also cut myself some slack and move my goal number of posts down from two-per-week to just one-per-week. It seems a little like a cop-out, but I'm hoping starting (again) slowly will help me continue!
So here's to another year (and another start), with hopefully not a stop in the near future!

Slowly, but surely...
Saturday: Joined LA Fitness (they had a special price, but it's still more than I've ever paid for a gym membership! Strike that, MU Rec was the most expensive when all was said and done, but just barely...)
Sunday: Went in for the "fitness test", aka, let-me-tell-you-how-much-you-should-get-a-personal-trainer sell. It nearly worked.
Monday: Skipped the gym for a run/walk in the neighborhood. Ironic, I know.
Tuesday: Morning yoga class before rushing to work. Next time, my timing will be better.
Wednesday: 5:45am Cycle Zone class with A. I grumbled the whole way there and felt incredibly out of shape the whole class.
However, when I look back at the past five days, I feel as if I've made good choices and feel incredibly good about them. When I can't walk tomorrow and I try to go for my run/walk, I may be cringing a different tune...

More Daisies
Wanting to jump start your weekend with a little inspiration? Watch this video...
The countdown to my birthday is under the three month mark, and I'm finally getting off my procrastinating butt to get the ball rolling. If all goes well, there shall be the first of (hopefully) many posts on Monday sharing joy...
Until then, smile often this weekend...

All's Quiet on the Indiana Front
I've been a little distant from the social media world for the past few days. This is hardly news to anyone to actually follows me anywhere, nor is it out of the ordinary for me. However, I've had a weird little whirlwind of excitement, apprehension, impatience, boredom, and a desire to move on with life.
Despite these emotions and feelings, I'm stuck in a holding pattern for a few more weeks with little chance to escape. But even this holding pattern has a certain blessed feeling about it, and so I shall do my best to be patient, controlled excited, and not disappear from the digital world!

Heavy Thoughts
I'm quite sure what to say, except that I'm pulling for a miracle, and know one is possible.
One of my near and dear friends was due with a baby girl, just in time for my birthday. There were jokes as to scheduling the delivery so me and the little one could share a birthday, possibilities of having a Seuss-themed nursery, and my excitement over being able to (possibly) quilt her a baby quilt (ya know, if I can ever get the one I'm currently working on done and a new one started).
Woody Allen has a famous line: "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans". While I'm certain God isn't laughing at this, little C was born this past week (16 weeks early), throwing everyone's plans out the window and hoping for a miracle--either divine or scientific. Two states away, I feel pretty hopeless, so I'm doing the only thing I can think of: spreading the word and hope the thoughts and prayers of my extended Internet friends can help little C continue to be a fighter and pull this out.
So, friends of the world, please think strong and positive thoughts for a little one fighting for her life--make it so in the many years to come I can make jokes about how we should have shared our birthday, had she not been impatient to get here before September...

Little bit of a daze...
It's been a whirlwind of five days, that simultaneously passed incredibly slow. I've been without my laptop for a few of them, but mostly I'm just a little off a regular sleeping pattern and therefore am a little dazed.
That cute, adorable, fluffy cat of mine has decided that play time is not 8am-9pm when I'm at home and not doing anything important, but rather 3am-5am. I wouldn't mind if she played then, I just wish she didn't want me as her playmate...
I sat her down and we had a discussion about it on Monday, and it worked as she let me sleep all of Monday night. However, she must have a short term memory problem, as last night was one of the worst in terms of persistent wake up calls.
In related news, if I could just find a job that required me to be awake at 3am, Miss Muffet would be set and I wouldn't even need an alarm clock!
